Adam Nafa was charged by the United States for posting a video to Youtube.
No attack on Verizon’s systems ever took place.
Adam was charged for conspiracy to damage a protect computer, 18 U.S.C. 1030 (c)(4)(B) (i) and (ii), an attempt to damage to promote Operation Telecom, which was a protest against Verizon’s systematic corporate greed, and their efforts to have the FCC’s Net Neutrality Act overturned.
We consider Adam’s charges to be some of the most significant against Anonymous, under the statute, in the United States to date. His charges reflect an attempt by the United States government to criminalize even the thought of protest. In sum, his charges reflect a DOJ that considers mere presence in an IRC channel, or video production, a criminal act.. In that, his case was much like Christopher Weatherhead’s.
Adam’s case did not go trial. Instead, on 5/2/13, Adam Nafa pleaded guilty to one count of 18 U.S.C. 1030.
